I can see Danny’s frustration” – Sheffield Wednesday: Pundit reacts as Rohl makes Dejphon Chansiri admission.

Some people in the Championship are surprised by Sheffield Wednesday so far this season.

The Owls had a tough season last year, as they were close to being relegated for most of the season. Danny Rohl showed up in October 2023 and had a very hard job to do, but he was able to guide the ship and keep them away from the drop zone.

After a great season last year, Rohl is seen as one of the best up-and-coming managers in the EFL, and he is really starting to shine this season (2024–25).

Sheffield Wednesday is currently 11th in the table after a mixed bag of results. However, this is a big improvement from last season as they are 12 points clear of the relegation zone at this point in the season.

Preston North End (A) 3-1 L
Middlesbrough (A) 3-3 D
Stoke City (H) 2-0 W
Oxford United (A) 3-1 W
Blackburn Rovers (H) 1-0 L

Rohl’s job at Sheffield Wednesday should be considered a project, and therefore the expectations can not be too high at this stage. Having said that, it is vital that he is backed by the ownership, in order to oversee progression.

Rohl reveals a lack of communication with his Chairman

Following Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Preston North End, Danny Rohl made a revelation that will have many Owls fans worried about the near future.

When asked if he is in a situation to be clear about what he can and can’t do in the winter window, he simply answered, “No”.

Then, he quickly revealed that ‘at the moment, there is no talk’, between himself and Chairman, Dejphon Chansiri.

He was extremely blunt and clearly upset in his post-match interview, which became evident when it was put to him that his answers would not sound particularly healthy going into the January window, as he simply replied, ‘let’s see’.

Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s good start to the season, there will be worries about the relationship between Rohl and Chansiri.

Carlton Palmer reacts to lack of contact at Sheffield Wednesday

Former Owls star and current pundit, Carlton Palmer, spoke directly to FLW to discuss Sheffield Wednesday’s current situation and the value of backing Danny Rohl.

“Sheffield Wednesday did unbelievably well last season under Danny Rohl to stay in the league. They did bring in an awful lot of players, they had a huge change at the football club in terms of the playing staff and what they brought in.

“They’re on 33 points, in 11th place in the Championship. They’re not in any danger of relegation and are only four points off the play-off places, so I can see Danny’s frustration because he must be looking at that and saying to the boss, ‘if you back me a little bit, I might be able to get in the play-offs this season.’

“I don’t think it’s a big worry for Sheffield Wednesday at the moment because it has to be a process that takes time. You don’t just go from nearly dropping out of the league to being back in the place that they’re in.

“He’s an eager young boss. He was coveted by a lot of teams just lately. Southampton and other clubs were chasing him, and he was happy to commit his future to the football club.

“I would’ve thought that his future being committed to the football club was in conjunction with talks with Mr Chansiri about the future of the football club and the players they were going to bring in to take the club to the next level.

“Let’s wait and see what happens in the January transfer window, because I’m sure that if he’s not backed and continues to do the job he does, and he gets frustrated with the Chairman, then for Sheffield Wednesday fans we could see the departure of Danny Rohl.”
