“I can see Danny’s frustration” – Sheffield Wednesday: Pundit reacts as Rohl makes Dejphon Chansiri admission
Sheffield Wednesday has surprised many in the Championship so far this season. When Danny Rohl took over in
October 2023, the Owls were in danger of relegation for nearly the whole season, but he was able to steer the ship
and keep them out of the drop zone. Rohl is regarded as one of the best up-and-coming managers in the EFL because
of his heroics from the previous season, and he is really starting to shine in the 2024–25 campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday currently sit 11th in the table after a mixed bag of results, but it is a huge improvement from
last season, as they find themselves 12 points clear of the drop zone at the midway point of the campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday’s last five Championship results | |
---|---|
Opposition | Result |
Preston North End (A) | 3-1 L |
Middlesbrough (A) | 3-3 D |
Stoke City (H) | 2-0 W |
Oxford United (A) | 3-1 W |
Blackburn Rovers (H) | 1-0 L |
Rohl’s job at Sheffield Wednesday should be considered a project, and therefore the expectations can not be too high at this stage. Having said that, it is vital that he is backed by the ownership, in order to oversee progression.
Rohl reveals a lack of communication with his Chairman
After Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Preston North End, Danny Rohl revealed something that will worry a lot of Owls supporters in the near future.
He merely said “No” when asked if he is in a position to be explicit about what he can and cannot accomplish during the winter window.
He then abruptly disclosed that he and Chairman Dejphon Chansiri were not speaking “at the moment.”
He was extremely blunt and visibly frustrated in his post-match interview, which became evident when it was put to him that his responses would not sound particularly healthy going into the January window, as he simply replied, ‘let’s see’.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s positive start to the season, there will be concerns about the relationship between Rohl and Chansiri.
Carlton Palmer reacts to lack of communication at Sheffield Wednesday
Former Owls star and current pundit, Carlton Palmer, spoke exclusively to FLW to discuss Sheffield Wednesday’s
current status and the importance of backing Danny Rohl.
“Sheffield Wednesday did unbelievably well last season under Danny Rohl to stay in the league. They did bring in an
awful lot of players, they had a massive overhaul at the football club in terms of the playing staff and what they
brought in.
“They’re on 33 points, in 11th place in the Championship. They’re not in any danger of relegation and are only four
points off the play-off places, so I can see Danny’s frustration because he must be looking at that and saying to the
chairman, ‘if you back me a little bit, I might be able to get in the play-offs this season.’
“I don’t think it’s a huge concern for Sheffield Wednesday at the moment because it has to be a process that takes time. You don’t just go from nearly dropping out of the league to being back in the position that they’re in.
He is a young, ambitious manager who was recently courted by Southampton and other teams. He was happy to
commit his future to the football team. “I would have assumed that his commitment to the football team was in
conjunction with talks with Mr. Chansiri about the future of the football club and the players they were going to
bring in to take the club to the next level.” “Let’s wait and see what happens in the January transfer window, because
I’m sure that if he’s not backed and keeps doing the job he does, and he becomes irritated with the Chairman, then
Sheffield Wednesday supporters could see Danny Rohl leave.”
