An agreement has been arranged for a Birmingham City and Sunderland target to complete a move to Leeds United.
Leeds are reportedly set to snap up promising Australian goalkeeper Robbie Cook ahead of Birmingham and Sunderland, with a transfer expected to be completed in the upcoming January window.
Daniel Farke’s side are determined to improve their youth ranks to future-proof themselves, particularly between the sticks. Cook, still just 17 years of age, has been impressing at academy level for Perth Glory in his home nation.
Journalist and English Football League specialist Alan Nixon, formerly of The Sun, reports via his Patreon page that Leeds have reached a full agreement to sign Cook. It’s claimed Birmingham were very much in the fight but the Championship outfit won out.
Blues are said to have attempted a late hijack for Cook but the player already had his heart set on a move to Elland Road. Leeds are hoping to develop the shot-stopper into a first-team player but the English second-tier club are aware patience will be required.
Sunderland, meanwhile, had Cook on trial earlier this year but the teenager has agreed terms on a three-year contract to sign for Leeds. Already rivals on the field in the race for promotion to the Premier League, tensions could extend between the two clubs if other transfer fights develop.
