Oldham Athletic owner Frank Rothwell has gone viral on social media after a video of him wishing travelling Latics fans a Merry Christmas was shared by the club.
Following the Latics’ 2-0 victory away to Braintree Town on Saturday (December 21), Rothwell greeted each one of the travelling fans as they left Cressing Road.
The club shared the video on its social media platforms and was shared by other pages, amassing millions of views across Facebook and X, including a post from Proper Football, which has been viewed more than 4.5 million times at the time of publishing.
In the video, fans can be heard thanking Rothwell and wishing him a Merry Christmas in return.
Comments in response to the videos have heaped praise on the 74-year-old, with one comment on X calling him “the best football club owner we could have ever wished for”.
Another comment on X read: “If only all football club chairmen acted in this way the game might be back in the right hands.”
One person on Facebook said it was “great to see Frank thanking those travelling supporters” and described it as a “tremendous gesture”.
Countless other comments described him as a “legend” and a “hero”.
Rothwell has gained a reputation for his down-to-earth style of ownership, often travelling for away games and standing watching the games in the away end alongside supporters.
