West Brom are apparently looking for a “unbelievable” manager to replace Carlos Corberan in the Hawthorns hot seat.
West Brom eyeing Corberan successor
West Brom’s former manager, Corberan, has left the club to take over La Liga side Valencia, a job he found too difficult to turn down. The team now needs to find a suitable replacement to keep them in the Championship promotion race until the season ends.
Plenty of names have already been mooted as potential options for the Baggies, with Liverpool first-team coach Johnny Heitinga a leading candidate to take charge and guide them to future successes. Whether the Dutchman is willing to leave Anfield so soon after coming in alongside Arne Slot remains to be seen, though.
Meanwhile, a reunion with Tony Mowbray has also been mooted, with the veteran manager out of work since leaving Birmingham City due to health reasons. It would be a decision that may divide the supporters, with some seeing him as a safe pair of hands and others maybe wanting a younger boss brought in.
West Brom keen on “unbelievable” manager
West Brom are interested in hiring Mark Robins, who was recently fired by Coventry City. He is “ready to return to management” and has been described as “the best manager in this league” by a colleague.
Robins stands out as a good possibility for West Brom, with many surprised by his recent dismissal, given his success at Coventry, bringing them to the Championship and then the playoff final in the 2022/23 season.
Only a penalty shootout setback to Luton Town prevented him from leading his side to the Premier League, and Shaun Derry has waxed lyrical about his previous work, saying:
“You look at some of the teams in and around the top six, you know, there’s a lot of pressure on them teams, of course, to get into the Premier League, the promised land, it’s massive. But if you think about the job that Mark Robins has done, it’s absolutely unbelievable. Complete safe pair of hands at that football club, but now he’s got some brilliant players, young players, really aggressive plays in the final third, and that was a massive win today.”
Robins has previously caused issues for West Brom, winning two of nine games against them, and his favored 3-4-1-2 formation may bring out the best in wing-backs while also being an awkward system to play against. He could soon be regarded as the front-runner to take over at The Hawthorns.
