Update on Matheus Cunha’s injury: the Wolves attacker might yet be banned from the Premier League

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is confident that Matheus Cunha’s injury is not serious after the attacker was substituted off at half-time against Tottenham.

Wolves continued their strong start under Pereira, salvaging a 2-2 away tie against Spurs with a late equalizer from Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Midlands team is presently two points above the bottom three and has won their previous three games.

However, Cunha’s withdrawal at halftime in north London on Sunday after taking a hit in the first half raised some concerns for Wolves.

The Brazillian has been the team’s bright spot so far this season, scoring ten goals and dishing out four assists in 19 Premier League games. Wolves will have a difficult matchup against Nottingham Forest, who are in excellent form, at home on Monday, but Pereira was optimistic that Cunha would be well enough to play after he asked to leave at halftime. “Coach, I felt something during the first half and now I’m afraid to speed up. When I need to speed up or I need to make a sprint, I don’t feel confident for this. It’s better to stay out of the game,” the Wolves manager said following Sunday’s game.

I respect the fact that he told me. It’s not serious, in my opinion.

Even though the injury might not be too severe, the 25-year-old might still be banned because the Football Association charged him with misconduct last week for his involvement in the altercation following Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Ipswich at home on December 14.
Shortly after the full-time whistle, Cunha was shown pushing the Ipswich Town employee in the face, causing his spectacles to fall off.

Cunha has been allowed to play in Wolves’ previous three games despite being charged while the FA considers the verdict.
