Reading FC boss on Mansfield Town match winner Tyler Bindon
Reading manager Noel Hunt has nothing but praise for defender Tyler Bindon after he scored the winning goal
against Mansfield Town.
The New Zealand international has made around 80 appearances for the club since joining in the summer of 2023,
and he has already captained the club and been a regular for his country.
In the Royals’ final encounter of 2024, the 19-year-old struck a spectacular overhead kick to secure a 2-1 victory over
Nigel Clough’s Stags, sealing the club’s place in the play-offs in 2025.
Hunt said that the’special’ talent did not surprise him, despite the fact that centre defenders are not known for their
goal-scoring prowess.
“You might be surprised but I’m not surprised,” Hunt said. “The kid is unbelievable. He doesn’t know how good he is
or how good he is going to be. He is the loveliest boy, and his character is so delightful to work with.
“He is inquisitive, asks questions, and wants to know how things function and where he should be at any given time–
these are the people you want to work with, as they all are. He’s a special child. When he initially arrived, he trained
with me, and I walked into the office and said, ‘If we don’t sign him, I might as well go.’ He’s been amazing from the
first session to the present.
Finishing in the top three for Player of the Season last season, the teenager is expected to be a contender again this
season, if he finishes the season in Berkshire.
