Middlesbrough show ‘interest’ in £8m former Leeds United star

Middlesbrough and Sunderland are allegedly interested in signing former Leeds United player Glen Kamara.

In 2023/24, the Finnish international made 42 appearances for Leeds United after joining from Rangers.

Kamara, who played regularly under Daniel Farke, left to join Rennes for about £8 million at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has missed just two Ligue 1 games this season, yet he is already being linked with a return to England.

There is also speculation that Premier League clubs Ipswich Town and Southampton are keeping an eye on the former Arsenal prospect.

In November, Kamara told GiveMeSport that leaving Elland Road was “bittersweet”. He stated, “It was bittersweet leaving Leeds. We were very close to climbing up.

“We probably should’ve gone up automatically. It was difficult to accept defeat in the play-off final.

“I was only there for a year, so moving so soon was a bit of a weird one, but things just happen quickly in football and you have to be ready.”

Rennes is 12th in the Ligue 1 table, having won five, drawn two, and lost eight of their first fifteen games.

Glen Kamara played for Leeds United in the Championship play-off final earlier this year.

Last month, Kamara stated he was drawn to the French club’s ambition to compete in European championships.

He stated, “I was drawn to the club’s aim to be in Europe. I played a lot of European football for Rangers, and returning to that level would be incredible. And I believe that is where this club wants to be.

“If we do not make Europe this season, we will be dissatisfied. It wouldn’t be good for us, especially with our current team. We’ve spent a lot of money this season. The goal is unquestionably to get into Europe. “All the boys are aware of this.”
