Liverpool looking into surprise transfer deal for Sheffield United player

Sheffield United prospect Ryan Oné is being targeted by Premier League leaders Liverpool.

That is the latest from journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, who claims that the Reds are putting together a dossier on the Sheffield United youngster, who fought his way into the first-team picture at Bramall Lane earlier this season.

Nixon adds that Oné is the type of physical number nine that Liverpool does not currently have in their developing system, so the club is eager to sign the Scotsman and develop him into a future star.

According to reports, if Liverpool comes calling, the Blades will likely demand a high fee for the forward, as he is one of their most promising prospects.

Before joining Sheffield United, Oné proceeded through Hamilton Academical’s academy, making 17 Scottish Championship appearances for the first squad at a young age.

While playing in Scotland, he was the subject of an offer from Brighton & Hove Albion, which was turned down, but Hamilton anticipated an agreement. Obviously, nothing happened, and in September 2023, he signed for Sheffield United, who were in the Premier League at the time.
Oné scored on his debuts for the Under 18 and Under 21 teams, and he made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Arsenal.

This season, the adolescent has been more involved with the first team, making a handful of Championship substitute appearances. On his Championship debut, he came on against Bristol City and scored an equaliser after 15 minutes, which was followed by Harrison Burrows’ winning goal.

The Scotsman is a highly talented forward with all of the characteristics of an up-and-coming target man, and he is set to receive many more opportunities for the Blades this season, but Liverpool’s interest may complicate matters.

Sheffield United should resist Ryan Oné approaches – he could be the Kieffer Moore successor

Sheffield United has only one goal in mind: promotion to the Premier League, no matter what it takes.

So far, they are in a strong position to fulfill that aim, since they are comfortably within reach of the automatic promotion positions in the Championship.

Wilder is thought to be looking for experience in the January window to add to his squad for the promotion drive, which may push the aforementioned Oné down the pecking order slightly, especially if a new forward joins the ranks.

The Scottish kid has played lots of minutes off the bench and was even given a start against Plymouth Argyle, but when the season’s final months arrive, Wilder will want to call on the players who have been there and done it.

Even if Oné does not play many more minutes this season, they should not consider selling him to Liverpool or any other club – he has a lot of promise and, in a few years, he may be Kieffer Moore’s full-time successor at the top end.
