Jim Goodwin tears into Aberdeen thugs who threw missiles at Dundee United dugout – ‘Ban them for life’
Jim Goodwin believes Aberdeen supporters who threw an empty Vodka bottle and missiles at him and his Dundee United backroom team will be caught and banned from football for life.
United’s 1-0 Tannadice victory over the Dons was marred by fireworks and objects hurled from the away end at their former manager and his coaching staff. In the second half, a steward was summoned on the pitch to remove a glass bottle and other debris that had fallen onto it.Goodwin stated, “Yes, absolutely, skimming over our heads, including mine, my backroom team, the linesmen, and the fourth official.”
“I’m curious how many items were picked up from the pitch, but there were a lot of objects hurled in our direction. Thankfully, there was a strong blast of wind that disrupted their aim.
“It’s insane in this day and age, and hopefully there are lots of cameras at the game today, CCTV and all of that, and hopefully these men will be caught and banned from football for life, but I don’t want to spend too much time talking about it. Tonight, it’s all about my players’ attitudes and applications.
“Outstanding. As I have stated, we had far more decent goal-scoring opportunities than Aberdeen, and I believe we deserved to win in the end.”
Aberdeen manager Goodwin also claimed to have been hit with coins during the club’s visit to Tannadice two seasons ago. His time at Aberdeen did not go well, and he has no idea why he has become a target for elements of the Red Army. Goodwin, who led his team to victory, said: “No, I tried to be as calm as possible as the goal went in.
“You know, it’s upsetting to see so many rockets falling from above. “There was a bottle of vodka, coins, firelighters, and everything falling on us.”I’m not sure what I’ve said in the past that has upset them so much.
“Obviously, things did not go as planned when I was manager, but I have made no disparaging remarks about that football club. It’s unacceptable to have that kind of material thrown down on top of us. I hope the authorities look into it.”
