Of their 18 games to date, 13 have been drawn or decided by a goal in each direction, implying that the Tractor Boys are on the verge of putting together a run of results that will keep them afloat, provided they can iron out minor flaws in their game and maintain their composure throughout the season. McKenna was eager to stress out the positives following the Arsenal game, explaining: “The players worked extremely hard, and we got the game back on track in the second half after a good 20 minutes. We were pinned in early on and couldn’t get out, but I was very pleased with where we were after 89 minutes.
However, January signings are needed to assist push for survival, with Hakim Ziyech among those linked with a move to Portman Road. Another prospective addition has emerged. Ipswich want a midfielder ahead of Southampton. According to The Boot Room, both Ipswich and Southampton are interested in signing midfielder Glen Kamara as they attempt to bolster their teams in the middle of the season.
The 29-year-old midfielder joined Rennes in Ligue 1 this summer after leaving Leeds United, but he has played little for his new club thus far. Kamara has played 90 minutes just three times and has not been picked to Rennes’ starting lineup in any of their past three top-flight games. Though yet to taste Premier League action, Kamara has featured in European competitions throughout his time at Rangers and has 65 caps for Finland, showcasing his expertise. Kamara still has almost four years left on his £29,000-per-week contract in France, but according to the source, “he could leave Rennes in January” and that both Ipswich and Southampton “are both keen” to sign him.
He is a deep-lying midfielder who has been described as “an agile skilful dribbler” by Football Analyst Ben Mattinson, but he also has a physical presence in midfield at 6 feet tall. Though McKenna has relied heavily on Sam Morsy this season, Kalvin Phillips and Jack Taylor are viable options, leaving room for improvement in the East Anglian engine room, despite Jens Cajuste’s recent improvements. If they can deter interest from the Saints as well, they will be doing nothing to harm their chances of survival.
