Giants: Good news and bad news from 45–33 win over the Colts
After 17 weeks, the New York Giants won their first home game this season on Sunday. The Giants’ offense led to a 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts in their home finale. New York presently has a 3-13 record with one game left to play this season.
Drew Lock, the backup quarterback, had the game of his career on Sunday. He concluded the day with a near-perfect 155.3 passer rating, completing 17/23 for 309 yards, four throwing touchdowns, zero interceptions, and one game-winning rush touchdown. Lock is the first Giants quarterback since Eli Manning in 2014 to record 300+ yards, three or more passing touchdowns, and one or more rushing touchdowns in a same game.
Lock’s favorite target on his career day was of course wide receiver Malik Nabers. The superstar rookie turned in the best performance of his career so far, totaling seven receptions for a career-high 171 yards and two touchdowns. With this performance, Nabers crossed the 1,000-yard and 100-reception marks on the season. He is the first Giants receiver to cross 1,000 yards in a single season since Odell Beckham Jr. back in 2018. It’s been an ugly year for the G-Men, but at least they know they have a young star in the making going forward.
Along with Nabers, Tyrone Tracy Jr., a rookie rushing back, reached 1,000 yards. He rushed for 59 yards on 20 carries and added 14 receiving yards in the contest. This season, he has accumulated more over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage. Nabers and Tracy are the first rookies to have 1,000 or more scrimmage yards in a single season since Marques Colston and Reggie Bush in 2006.
Entering Week 17, the Giants had the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, with this victory, they have slid to third place in the draft order, greatly limiting their ability to select the class’s best quarterback prospect. With one game remaining, New York will face an uphill struggle to secure the top overall pick in the draft. Because of their strength of schedule, they no longer have control over the No. 1 pick and would require assistance from other teams in the league to secure the top slot.
The Giants will play their final game of the season on the road next Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia has already won the NFC East, so with nothing left to play for, they may choose to rest their starters. However, superstar running back Saquon Barkley is vying for NFL history and may choose to play in Week 18 in an attempt to break the league’s single-season rushing yards record against his former team. The former Giants playmaker surpassed 2,000 yards in Week 17.
