EXCLUSIVES Southampton want to sign £8.4m player for Ivan Juric in January with Ipswich Town also keen.

TBR Football understand Southampton and Ipswich Town are both keen to capture Glen Kamara in the January transfer window.

Both the Saints and the Tractor Boys must work hard to stay in the Premier League, with Ivan Juric and Kieran McKenna currently in the relegation zone.

As a result, the January transfer window provides an excellent opportunity for Southampton and Ipswich to improve their respective squads with new recruits, and TBR Football has learnt that both are interested in signing Glen Kamara from Rennes.

Southampton and Ipswich Town showing Glen Kamara interest

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been informed that the Finland international is on the radar at both the St Mary’s Stadium and Portman Road, as he might leave Rennes in January. Kamara, who joined the Ligue 1 club for £8.4 million from Leeds United in July 2024, now faces an unclear future under Jorge Sampaoli, who succeeded Julien Stephan in November.

The Argentine kept the Finnish central midfielder on the bench in the recent 1-0 loss to Nantes and does not appear to see him as a regular starter, playing only 13 minutes in the previous 2-0 victory over Angers. TBR Football understands that this issue has alarmed Southampton, who preferred Carlos Corberan over Juric, as well as Ipswich, with Burnley, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough also interested in the 29-year-old.

Glen Kamara described as a “relaxed” footballer

Markku Kanerva, who managed Kamara in the Finland National Team, spoke highly of the Southampton and Ipswich targets for 2021.

The 60-year-old told AFP: “He’s always relaxed (on the pitch), but that doesn’t mean he’s not fighting. “He is undoubtedly one of our important players. Hopefully, he will continue his progress; it would be great to see him play for bigger clubs. Despite Kanerva’s high expectations for Kamara, he never had the opportunity to play in the Premier League while at Leeds United, though that could change in January.
