Chrisene concentration claims on City’s set piece struggles
Before half-time, Kenneth Paal’s header deflected off Ante Crnac on the goal line, giving the visitors the lead. It gave City a difficult second task in chasing the battle.
Johannes Hoff Thorup said that set-pieces had accounted for 40% of City’s conceded goals during the first international break, with only Sheffield Wednesday conceding more from dead ball situations in the division.
Chrisene accepted responsibility for his error in the buildup to the corner and believes City must improve their concentration when attacking defensive set pieces.
“It’s quite frustrating. We’re working on them a lot behind the scenes, but I believe it’s a lack of concentration, and I’ve held my hands up in conceding the corner. That demonstrated a lack of concentration.
“With the actual set pieces, I believe it’s all about concentration. We need to make large and dramatic improvements. It’s one of the things we modify right away since it determines games.
“It’s individually and collectively – it starts with yourself, and each player needs to be fully concentrated,” Chrisene told the Pink Un newspaper. “It’s a communal effort, and we need to stop it at the source.
“The manager has spoken a lot about it, as have individuals behind the scenes. Every team is affected by it, and the key is to recover from it.
“It kills you a little. But we had the entire second half to rectify it. When you have so many opportunities to score, we can only blame ourselves for not winning the game.
Given a second half of squandered opportunities, the overarching sense inside Carrow Road was one of frustration.
“The mood after the game is pretty much frustration,” the left back explained. “Even though we got one point, I believe we could have gotten three. Everyone understands this, including those watching.
“The most important thing is to focus on the good aspects of returning to the game. Credit to the fans for keeping us in the game and sticking with us even when we were chasing the game. This is one of those things.
“We’re usually the squad in charge of managing a game or determining the outcome. We’ve been the victim of giving away games before, but this time was different since we were pursuing a goal. That is the hardest task.
“Credit to us for getting back in, but we need to improve on killing games off and ensuring we aren’t in those situations.”
