Sunderland have been linked with moves for Premier League talent if they decide to strengthen
Sunderland are reported to have a growing list of attacking players they are targeting in the January transfer window. The club are looking to bolster their forward options with Wilson Isidor having scored just five goals and Aaron Connelly a bit-part player so far.
Eliezer Mayenda and Nazariy Rusyn have hardly featured, with Mayenda starting the season well with a few goals himself but then missing a large chunk of games through injury. Nobody knew what to expect from head coach Regis Le Bris this season but despite not possessing a prolific goalscorer he has made the Black Cats into genuine promotion contenders in the Championship.
It’s no surprise that Sunderland have been linked with five forwards including Aston Villa’s Louie Barry and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson Ferguson is perhaps the biggest name and it is claimed that Sunderland have shown an interest a player who has played just 12 times in the Premier League this season, scoring once, with the bulk of his appearances coming off the bench.
A potential loan deal seems possible, albeit unlikely. Ferguson is still playing at Brighton and how realistic a loan move to the Championship is, remains to be seen as Arsenal have been tipped to show an interest in Ferguson in the New Year.
Elsewhere, Barry has been recalled following his impressive spell on loan at Stockport County in the first half of the season. He now has several Championship teams on alert. Sunderland are one of the teams linked with him and a loan deal for the 21-year-old is plausible.
