Washington Commanders Roster Moves: Phidarian Mathis release opens up spot for Jonathan Allen’s return from IR

The Washington Commanders have reportedly waived former Ron Rivera second-round pick DT Phidarian Mathis. This was an expected move from the team for a variety of reasons. He has been a healthy scratch for the last three games, and practice squad DT Carl Davis has been upgraded to play ahead of him. Dan Quinn referred to it as “internal competition,” which suggests he was beaten out for his position. His first two years were marred by injury; now healthy, he’s simply not good enough.
