Sky Sports Arsenal fans all left fuming with the referee against Ipswich after bold penalty call.
Arsenal supporters were not thrilled with the referee during the team’s match against Ipswich Town on Friday night.
The Gunners hosted the Tractor Boys at the Emirates Stadium, hoping to improve their Premier League position to second place.
Ipswich stayed deep for most of the encounter, limiting Arsenal’s opportunities.
Mikel Arteta made a breakthrough in the first half, as Leandro Trossard’s effort on the left resulted in a tap-in for Kai Havertz from close range.
while gaining the lead, Arsenal was upset that they were unable to increase their lead, with some good chances missed while having so much control.
Another source of frustration for fans was the referee’s decision not to call a penalty for the team.
Arsenal fans fume at the referee against Ipswich.
Arsenal fans were outraged when referee Darren England refused to give a penalty in the second half.
Gabriel Magalhaes seemed to be hauled down by Liam Delap in the penalty area, prompting many appeals.\
The referee dismissed the claim, but supporters disagreed with the judgment based on their social media reactions.
One fan complained: “Foul on Gabriel right in front of the ref, then foul on Havertz.” No VAR means no penalty. Lovely thing. Another added, “Stonewall penalty on Gabriel not given.”
Another fan questioned the judgment, asking, “How was that not a penalty for Gabriel Maghalaes?” Another claimed: “Alright, so the defender rugby tackles Gabriel in front of the referee and he doesn’t award a penalty?! “Since when is that allowed?”
The fury continued with, “How is that not a penalty?” and “I mean that’s a penalty… he rugby tackles the bloke.”
It was a decision that went against the side and will just add to the irritation that has been expressed over the refereeing.
How many penalties did Arsenal win this season?
This season, Arsenal has won four penalties in all competitions, including the Premier League, EFL Cup, and Champions League.
Two of them came in the league, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard taking and scoring both.
Fans probably believe they should have had more, but the true focus should be on their open-play scoring ability.
Relying on set-pieces and penalties is not indicative of a club capable of regularly scoring enough points to win the championship.
