According to reports, Fiorentina is getting ready to make a bid for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who joined the team from Lorient in 2019 and has made 198 appearances so far, keeping 64 clean sheets and giving up 271 goals.
Matheus Cunha update: Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle join Arsenal in the race for the Wolves player!
The Frenchman has been getting better this season, giving up just three goals in his last seven games while keeping four clean sheets to bring his season total to 13.
Meslier’s name has recently surfaced as a surprise target for Manchester United, possibly taking Altay Bayindir’s place as the team’s number two after Andre Onana?
David Norris, a former Leeds player, pushed the team to get go of its “inconsistent” goalie.
“I believe Meslier has started to look good in recent games, but the Leeds supporters I’ve talked to aren’t convinced anymore,” the analyst said.
Farke is probably thinking about alternative choices right now. He has lost the team points this season due to his excessive inconsistency. They simply don’t seem to have the same faith in Meslier as they formerly did.
Meslier, who is currently attracting interest from Italian team Fiorentina, seems to have thickened the plot.
The Viola are reportedly searching for a younger goalkeeper, according to TEAMtalk (via Leeds United News).
Only in the summer did Fiorentina capture Manchester United legend David de Gea on a free transfer; thus far, the Spaniard has kept six clean sheets while giving up just 14 goals in 15 games in all competitions.
De Gea’s finest days are undoubtedly behind him at 34, though, and Leeds may now make a January move for Meslier to secure their goalkeeping position going forward.
