Liverpool coach John Heitinga is now the bookies’ favourite to replace Carlos Corberan.
Following Carlos Corberan’s departure, West Brom fans have been debating the early favourites to take over as manager.
Corberan has left The Hawthorns to become the new head coach of La Liga club Valencia, a position he will hold until June 2027. The Baggies finalized the transaction on Christmas Eve after agreeing on compensation of around 3 million euros (£2.49 million). Valencia publicly introduced their new guy in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Valencia’s official website stated that “Carlos Corberan has been appointed as coach of Valencia CF, signing a contract until 2027.”
“A buy-out option in his contract with West Bromwich Albion was taken up to allow him to leave.”
Corberan wrote on the social media platform X, “I cannot begin to express how I feel about West Bromwich Albion, its fans, and everyone associated with the club.”
“In my more than two years here I have only felt LOVE from this community and the decision to leave has been the hardest of my life.”There will ALWAYS be a place in my heart for this unique club, and I hope to return someday to thank you all for your incredible support.”
West Brom chairman Shilen Patel posted on X: “I want to appreciate Carlos for all of his hard work since his arrival at the Albion during one of the most difficult periods in the club’s modern history.
“I am grateful for his contributions and wish Carlos and his family all the best on his new journey!”
The club confirmed that Chris Brunt, Damia Abella, and Boaz Myhill will manage the first team until further notice. Sporting director Andrew Nestor is leading Albion’s search for a new head coach, and in a post on X, he stated: “The process of identifying and appointing a successor is already underway, and we have every faith in the team, led by Chris Brunt and Damià Abella, to continue our work on the pitch during this interim period.”
Mark Robins, who was fired by Coventry City last month, was the early betting favourite to succeed Corberan, followed by three Premier League managers who have all been fired this season: Steve Cooper, Gary O’Neil, and Russell Martin. However, in a new twist, Liverpool coach John Heitinga is suddenly the bookmakers’ 5/2 favourite.
