‘Very uncharacteristic of us’ – Millwall temporary boss on the two goals his side conceded in loss to Norwich City

TEMPORARY head coach David Livermore said the two goals Millwall conceded during their 2-1 loss to Norwich City earlier today were “very uncharacteristic of us”.

Two instances of subpar defending in the first half let the Lions down, and although they improved in the second

half, they were unable to mount a successful comeback, even though Romain Esse scored a fantastic goal in the

65th minute.

“I believe Norwich had the advantage, but we did have a chance to win the game, particularly in the second half,”

Livermore stated.

“I felt like we had something there for us once we scored, and the guys were clearly disappointed that we hadn’t,

because we feel like we might have had a point left on the pitch.”

Since their 4-3 loss to Bristol City on August 17, Millwall have not given up more than one goal in a game until

today’s outcome. Both goals came from balls into the area and were scrappy.

“The way we gave up the goals was really out of character for us,” Livermore remarked.

“I have to take some responsibility for that because I pushed the guys to try to push a little more today. I believe

that if you push a little bit harder, they will play through you and you can get really stretched if you don’t get it

right, someone doesn’t follow the press, or you don’t get the timing correct.

I believe that in some ways it may have contributed to the two goals, but they’re really out of character for us in

terms of the final defensive play and how we defended the cross. “Certainly in the first half I asked the lads to be

on the front foot, to be aggressive to try and get after the ball higher up the pitch.”
