Sky Sports Oscar Schwartau’s joy at first City goal in Millwall victory 2 hrs ago.
Oscar Schwartau’s goal in Norwich City’s 2-1 victory over Millwall made him the youngest non-British player in club history. The teenager was the quickest to react to a Ben Chrisene cross, stab it into the net, before Romain Esse’s second-half strike made the game uncomfortable – but City held on to win for the first time since November. At the age of 18 years, seven months, and nine days, Schwartau became the youngest non-British player to score for Norwich in a league game in club history. It is his first goal since leaving his home country for the Canaries in the summer. At 18, the attacking midfielder was regarded as a potential possibility, but he appears to be settling well with Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team.
That winning goal came at the perfect time for the Dane, who had timed his first goal for the Canaries to be scored when his family was inside the stadium. “It came down in front of me, and fortunately, I got the first touch on it, and it went in. It wasn’t the best goal, but it’s still a goal. I’ll always be prepared in the box, and I’m skilled at spotting open places. “It seemed like a long time [before it hit the net].” Time stood still. “It was really nice,” Schwartau stated. “It’s the nicest Christmas present, and the goal and three points are excellent preparation for the upcoming game.
“My family are over here for Christmas now, so it’s perfect. It was very nice. It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to – so I’m very happy.”
Norwich’s victory ended a period of five games without a win and began an important festive period with three precious points to bring a much-needed uplift in mood.
They welcome QPR to Norfolk this weekend, looking to complete a flawless festive season, and Schwartau admits they need to regain momentum after an inconsistent first half of the Championship season. “It was a significant win. “We haven’t gotten the points we wanted in the last couple of games, despite playing some good games,” the teenager explained. “I felt like we were in control, but as you can see, it was 2-1 with only a few minutes left. It is usually difficult, but we received three points. We played a really strong first half, but the second half was not as good; this is something we need to address and improve.
“We have to build some momentum now. I think this result is a great way to start the Christmas period.”
