Sky Sports Ipswich Town: Dara O’Shea on self-belief in Town squad.
Dara O’Shea of Ipswich Town believes there is much more to come from the Blues as they attempt to climb out of relegation trouble. Town are currently two points from safety and face a challenging run of games, beginning with a trip to Arsenal tomorrow night (8.15pm, Amazon Prime). However, O’Shea, who has started 14 top-tier games for the Blues since joining from Burnley in the summer, insists the squad remains optimistic about avoiding relegation. “The position we’re in at the moment is down the wrong end of the table but I think there’s so much more to come from us,” he told me.
“Especially from the club as well, the club has grown so much too. It’s really exciting to be a part of this, so I’d say first and foremost for myself is to keep putting in performances, keep playing well and help the group grow.
“That’s been the key word that’s been used in the last few weeks – belief and just believing in what we can do. We see it in games and it’s not something that we haven’t seen already, there’s been really promising moments and great moments.”
Town will certainly need to lean heavily on that self-belief over the next few weeks.
However, O’Shea insisted: “It’s just believing in ourselves and knowing that we have enough because we do. “It’s a long season, but the games do run out; all we have to do is keep believing that the points will come and the performances will continue. “That is how we train each day. It’s always there to improve; we’re not just going through the motions in training to complete another day; we’re wanting to develop, become better, and get to where we want to be.”
