Ipswich Town: Enzo Maresca on Chelsea link to Liam Delap.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken about Ipswich Town attacker Liam Delap. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has praised Ipswich Town star Liam Delap as a’very excellent striker’ ahead of the two teams’ match at Portman Road on Monday night. Delap has six Premier League goals for the Blues after joining them from Manchester City for £15 million in the summer. The powerful England Under-21 international has adapted so well to top division football that The Athletic reports that ‘Big Six’ teams, including Chelsea, are already keeping a watch on his progress.

When asked about Delap ahead of his team’s trip to Suffolk, Maresca said: “Liam is an outstanding player. Also, considering his age. “We spent a year together (on Manchester City’s youth team). I believe he scored 22 or 24 goals that season. This is an excellent striker. “As I’ve mentioned many times, England is fortunate to have extremely excellent players, particularly forwards, who work hard off the ball, understand the game, and can score goals.

 

“Because of his age, I think he can be an important player for England.” Delap was suspended for last weekend’s 4-0 home loss to Newcastle, but he is available for tonight’s encounter against Arsenal.
