In addition to five previous absences, Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna hinted during his pre-Arsenal press conference that Massimo Luongo would miss the team’s trip to the Emirates Stadium once more.
Luongo hasn’t played for Ipswich since November, and McKenna clarified that his illness keeps him out of the lineup.
“We also need to evaluate Massimo [Luongo], who has been sick for the past week or two,” McKenna disclosed.
Sam Morsy, who received his fifth Premier League booking of the season against Newcastle United last weekend, will undoubtedly be absent on Friday in light of his yellow-card suspension.
Morsy played all bar five minutes of his team’s 17 Premier League games this season, starting 16 of them. They must now adjust to his absence.
Regarding potential Morsy substitutes, McKenna remarked, “It was good to get Kalvin [Phillips] on the pitch in the second half of the Newcastle game.” He is still trying to get back, so that was crucial. Jack Taylor performed admirably in the match against Bournemouth.
“They can hopefully contribute their own strengths, but neither is a perfect substitute for Sam.”
In other news, Ipswich’s top scorer, Liam Delap, will return to the squad against Arsenal after serving a one-game suspension. McKenna did not indicate that any of the four players—Chiedozie Ogbene, George Hirst, Janoi Donacien, and Axel Tuanzebe—were expected to return in time for Ipswich’s match against Arsenal.
