£1.5m Norwich City signing had a very quick fall from grace after arriving at Carrow Road
It is safe to assume that Daniel Farke had a solid record in the transfer market during his stint as manager of Norwich City.
Having only ever managed in the lower levels in Germany, Farke arrived at Carrow Road as a relative unknown when he was confirmed as Alex Neil’s permanent replacement in May 2017, but he undoubtedly made a major effect.
After a poor first season, the German went on to produce two Championship titles for Norwich in 2019 and 2021, and while he was unable to keep the team in the Premier League, he will forever be warmly remembered in Norfolk.
With the help of sporting director Stuart Webber, recruitment was a key factor behind Farke’s success, with Tim Krul, Christoph Zimmermann, Mario Vrancic, Kenny McLean, Marco Stiepermann, Emi Buendia and Teemu Pukki among those to join the Canaries during his tenure and establish themselves as firm fan favourites.
However, Webber and Farke did not always get it right in the transfer market, and winger Ben Marshall will go down as one of that just did not work out.
Ben Marshall signing did not work out for Norwich City
After a 14th-placed finish in his first year in charge, Farke oversaw a rebuild in the summer of 2018, and Marshall was one of those to make the move to Carrow Road, along with the likes of Krul, Buendia and Pukki.
Marshall joined Norwich from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of £1.5 million, signing a four-year contract, and given that he had demonstrated his quality at Championship level over the years, he looked to be an exciting signing for the club for a relatively affordable price.

The Portuguese midfielder scored his first goal for the team he joined in the summer by simply volleying the ball inside the six-yard box. After Florian Biachchini got one-on-one with Nardi, it could have been 4-0 at halftime, but he misjudged his touch, and QPR was saved.
To try to change things, QPR manager Marti Cifuentes made three changes, bringing on Nicolas Madsen, Harrison Ashby, and Ilias Chair. Cifuentes had stated that the team’s victory over Preston over the weekend had been their greatest performance of the season.
Although they assisted in moving their team across the field, Key took the first shot of the second half. In the 80th minute, Ashby attempted the first effort for QPR, but it was deflected for a corner.
After a Cullen through pass, Zan Vipotnik struck the home team’s side netting in the 83rd minute, but the result stayed the same as it was at halftime, with Swansea moving up to 10th place and QPR dropping two spots to 16th.
