Régis Le Bris sends message to Sunderland dressing room in verdict on Blackburn Rovers draw.

Sunderland were held to a 2-2 draw at Ewood Park in a gripping match with Blackburn Rovers

Régis Le Bris was delighted with Sunderland’s point against Blackburn Rovers but has urged his players that they have to be more consistent inside games.

The Black Cats were easily second best during the first half at Ewood Park and were maybe lucky to have been just one goal down at the interval. Sunderland surged ahead inside 10 minutes of the second half due to goals from Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor, wasting several excellent opportunities to expand their lead in the minutes that followed.

The match then swung from end to end in a thrilling climax, Harry Leonard equalising before Eliezer Mayenda squandered a late opportunity to secure the points when he was thwarted after bursting through 1-v-1.

Le Bris did not believe there was a tactical problem in the first half and thinks it a lesson to his players about the standards they had to meet.

“It’s not a bad result, to be fair,” Le Bris remarked.

“We played against a quality squad in a nice dynamic. At the conclusion of the game it’s not a poor point, we can evaluate the dynamic of the game but at the end it is a good point. Blackburn performed extremely well in the first half but I was not surprised. It is not a coincidence where they are in the chart, they were intense, swift and particularly in tiny places. It was quite tough to recover the ball and to be honest, they might have scored more in the first half. But we knew this level of intensity was coming, it was no surprise. So it’s an issue of standards because it’s a difficult league and when you are inconsistent, you get penalized.
