Celtic has been given a double injury boost ahead of their Boxing Day matchup with Motherwell later this afternoon.
The Hoops are hoping to recover from a lackluster goalless draw with Dundee United last time out when they play the Steelmen at Parkhead at 3pm.
Brendan Rodgers’ team was severely damaged by illness and injury at Tannadice over the weekend, with players like James Forrest, Nicolas Kuhn, Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Auston Trusty all sidelined.
This resulted in the inclusion of a number of periphery players, such as Stephen Welsh, who made his campaign debut, Anthony Ralston, and Yang Hyun-jun.
The manager has given Celtic supporters a late Christmas gift ahead of this afternoon’s game.
In fact, he recently stated that Carter-Vickers and Trusty, the first-choice center backs, should be able to play against Motherwell: “We have to recover quickly between games now,” he said (The Celtic Way).
Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers ought to return. If everything goes according to plan, they should be accessible after working on the bike on Sunday.
“Everyone must be available because we have so many games.”
Rodgers will be thrilled to have his first-choice central defensive tandem return for this afternoon, even though Liam Scales and Welsh handled the threat provided by Dundee United admirably on Sunday, helping Celtic to another clean sheet.
The Hoops will try to earn as many points as possible from their first of two home games this week against Stuart Kettlewell’s team before their trip to Ibrox in the new year.
