This season, Rangers have not had any injury problems, and this evening, a new concern has emerged.
Leon Balogun was substituted out of his team’s match against St Mirren in Paisley after just eighteen minutes due to a problem with what appeared to be his Achilles.
As Toyosi Olusanya hammered in behind the Gers defense in an attempt to assault Jack Butland’s goal, the Nigerian initially looked to have suffered a hamstring injury as he rushed back to protect.
However, the 36-year-old managed to brilliantly clear the ball and stop the striker’s advance, as he frequently does.
Unfortunately, with a terrible expression of pain on his face, the versatile center-half struck the deck and grabbed his ankle.
To make sure the backline was fully fit, Robin Propper would finally be substituted onto the field after the medics removed him off it as he tried to shake it off.
And as Balogun limped back into the SMiSA Stadium changing room, it was evident how frustrated he was.
Leon Balogun had to leave the game against St. Mirren.
Despite his advanced age, Balogun has always shown himself to be an essential part of Philippe Clement’s defense.
Additionally, he might miss important games, which would leave the Gers weak at the back, depending on how bad the injury is.
The matches are coming thick and fast, with a match against Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday coming after the rest of the St Mirren match.
How many more games will Celtic play at Ibrox?
However, the Light Blues could definitely use Balogun back healthy and ready to play in their upcoming match on January 2 at home against rivals Celtic.
When it comes to the Scottish Premiership title battle, it may be a huge six-pointer, and Clement will want his whole team to be available.
The Gers are now playing quite well and have closed the gap before Celtic’s match earlier this afternoon.
