The West Brom players who are going to leave in 2025 if nothing is done
The goal of West Bromwich Albion is to continue their push for promotion back to the Premier League.
The Baggies are playing in the second division for the fourth consecutive season after losing to Southampton in a two-leg play-off semi-final the previous season.
The Baggies were forced to follow an EFL-imposed business plan during the summer in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR). In order for the club to become more free-spending under new controlling shareholder Shilen Patel, it is likely that more high-earners will need to leave The Hawthorns soon.
Albion players whose contracts expire in 2025 are expected to contribute to outgoings, and if nothing is done, some senior figures will likely search for other homes following this season.
West Brom’s players who have contracts expiring in 2025 are listed by Football League World as the Black Country team struggles financially.
Ted Cann
Ted Cann, a goalie who has been with the West Midlands team since he was sixteen, will start.
The 23-year-old joined Albion in 2017 and has since made 19 appearances for the Brakes in 2023 after gaining priceless loan experience at Worcester City, Yeovil Town, AFC Telford United, and most recently, National League North Side Leamington.
Cann may be wondering if he will ever get his moment at The Hawthorns after spending his time there playing backup to first-choice West Brom goalkeepers like Sam Johnstone, David Button, and Alex Palmer. He is currently scheduled to leave in order to get more regular first team appearances.
Grady Diangana
Another player nearing the end of his contract at B71 is Albion winger Grady Diangana, who has struggled to match the highs of his first Championship season since moving permanently from West Ham in 2021.
Under Slaven Bilic, the 26-year-old scored eight goals and provided six assists as Albion went on to secure promotion back to the top flight; however, a combination of injury and inconsistency have spoilt such a bright beginning to his career.
With past attention from Leeds United, Burnley, Leicester City, and Saudi Arabia, the Congolese international is expected to have many suitors when he leaves the Baggies in the summer.
John Swift
Playmaker John Swift could have his Albion career brought to an end next summer after three seasons at the club.
Despite being one of the more notable attacking threats in the second tier while at Reading, the 29-year-old has had an inconsistent stint in the blue and white stripes, rotating in and out of the Albion XI under Carlos Corberan.
John Swift West Brom record – stats from Transfermarkt | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Season | Division | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2022/23 | Championship | 37 | 9 | 1 |
2023/24 | Championship | 45 | 6 | 9 |
With the frustration of the Albion faithful felt by Swift’s performances over a long period of time, the Baggies may wish to part ways in a move that would suit both parties.
Kyle Bartley
Kyle Bartley, a central defender who has been a West Brom mainstay, signed a 12-month contract at the end of the last campaign.
Time will tell if Bartley can meet that goal and prolong his stay, as he can automatically trigger a further year-long extension until 2026 if he makes enough appearances during current term.
Jayson Molumby
Jayson Molumby, a Republic of Ireland international, moved permanently to The Hawthorns the next season after initially joining on loan from Brighton in the West Midlands in 2021.
Since Molumby has established himself as Albion’s main midfield motor, Corberan has acknowledged that the team will have to decide in the summer what to do with him.
Since his contract status is still pending, Molumby will be leaving Albion for the time being.
Semi Ajayi
The Nigerian international Semi Ajayi, who is starting his sixth season at Albion and has made over 150 appearances for the team across all competitions, rounds out the list. Having spent a significant portion of his career with the Baggies, the former Rotherham United player may be looking for a new challenge and is expected to leave this summer if his contract isn’t extended.
