Sheffield United’s new owners drop Chris Wilder’s future hint after welcome pledge that Unitedites will love
After making a welcoming pledge that United supporters would like, Sheffield United’s new owners reveal Chris Wilder’s future.
Following their official takeover of Bramall Lane yesterday, Sheffield United’s new owners may prioritise protecting
manager Chris Wilder’s position. The American businessmen who run the COH Sports organisation, Helmy
Eltoukhy and Steven Rosen, ultimately reached an agreement to purchase the Blades from Prince Abdullah for
approximately £105 million.
The Blades entered Boxing Day’s matchup against promotion rivals Burnley atop the Championship and with 50
points from their first 22 games of the season, and the two were impressed by how Wilder has turned around the
team’s fortunes since their relegation last season. In the press statement announcing their arrival, Rosen and
Eltoukhy gave another strong indication that Wilder’s contract, which expires this summer, would be extended. They
also publicly promised to back him when the January transfer window opens.
According to the statement, “the new ownership is confident they can provide the right structure that allows the
talent at the Club to thrive in the long term, and they support the current management team, including Stephen
Bettis and Chris Wilder.” The new owners are impressed with Bettis, as The Star reported earlier this summer. They
met him and Wilder after the Steel City derby victory at Bramall Lane last Wednesday.
After a lengthy period of discussions between the two sides, the news is welcomed by many Unitedites, but there is
also some trepidation about the new incumbents in the boardroom at Bramall Lane. The Prince’s ability to keep
many people from missing United games was one of his major achievements at Bramall Lane, and COH has made a
public commitment to uphold this throughout their rule.
In a joint statement, Rosen and Eltoukhy said, “We want to take this chance to assure the supporters that we
understand the huge responsibility that comes with owning Sheffield United.” “The club is deeply ingrained in this
wonderful city, and our supporters are the lifeblood who support the team no matter what.” The core of what COH
stands for will be our supporters, and we are steadfast in our resolve to make Sheffield United available and
reasonably priced for them.
