Swansea City have had a pretty good 2024/25 season thus far, and goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has played a key part since signing from Burnley in the offseason.

The Swans’ purchase of 31-year-old Vigouroux may have raised some eyebrows, given he has never played a competitive game beyond League One and has not made a single appearance for Burnley.

Luke Williams, who previously worked with Vigouroux at Swindon Town, trusted him to make an impact at Championship level, and he has done so, confirming his role as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Swans, with the option to extend it by another year, and we’ve looked at how much Vigouroux is expected to make while at the club.

We utilize Capology for this data, which, although not completely accurate, offers valuable insights on player earnings.

Vigouroux is Swansea City’s fifth-highest earner, with an estimated weekly income of £15,000 and a total annual salary of £780,000.

Swansea City’s highest earners (estimated) – Capology
Player Weekly wage Annual salary
Matt Grimes £22,500 £1,170,000
Kyle Naughton £20,000 £1,040,000
Harry Darling £19,231 £1,000,000
Kristian Pedersen £18,000 £936,000
Lawrence Vigouroux £15,000 £780,000

Because the 31-year-old has a two-year contract with the club, he is expected to earn £1,560,000 during his time in south Wales, however if the 12-month option is activated, that amount would rise to £2,340,000.

At the moment, it appears to be money well spent, and while things can change in sport, it would be surprising if Swansea did not opt to extend Vigouroux’s contract for another 12 months next season.

Vigouroux allegedly earns £15,000 per week at Swansea, more than doubling his income from his time at Burnley, when he was projected to make £7,000 per week, which was significantly more than his earnings at Leyton Orient.

Just two seasons ago, the 31-year-old earned £90,000 a year (equivalent to £1,731 per week according to Capology), indicating a significant increase in recent years.

Vigouroux has had a wild couple of seasons, but he is prospering in South Wales and is now reaching his full potential in the Championship.

Luke Williams will be relieved that Lawrence Vigouroux gamble has paid off

Swansea were lucky to have Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton last season, and he proved to be a fantastic addition, but Williams had some significant challenges in the summer.

Prior to his arrival, supporters knew little about Vigouroux, who had spent the majority of his career in English football’s lower levels, and his lack of Premier League and Championship experience made him a gamble, especially given that he had gone a whole season without playing.

However, Williams’ choice to rejoin with the former Swindon Town player has proven to be an inspired purchase, and the Jack Army has quickly warmed to Vigouroux owing to his shot-stopping ability and outstanding passing.

Despite having no Championship experience, the Chilean appears to be a class act at this level, and his signing has been a great one for Swansea.
