Michael Carrick’s interesting answer when asked about Emmanuel Latte Lath’s Middlesbrough future

Michael Carrick’s interesting answer when asked about Emmanuel Latte Lath’s Middlesbrough future

Emmanuel Latte Lath is attracting interest from Premier League clubs

When asked about the possibility of losing star striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, Michael Carrick admitted that there

will be aspects of the forthcoming January transfer window over which Middlesbrough has little control, but that the

club will be prepared to react to whatever arises next month.

Latte Lath scored 18 goals in his debut season at Boro last year and has nine goals this season for Carrick’s

promotion-chasing Boro. His progress since landing on Teesside has drew a lot of interest, with Ipswich Town

making a £20 million approach on transfer deadline day in the summer, which was rejected.

Boro are determined to maintain all of their important players when the transfer window opens again in the New

Year, but they expect additional offers. Ipswich have been linked with a return bid, while West Ham have also been

mentioned, with the Ivorian’s agent stating that he ‘anticipated something to happen’ in January.

When asked about maintaining Latte Lath, Carrick spoke a lot but didn’t actually answer the question. He stated,

“I’ve said it before, we’re committed to come out of January as strong, if not stronger, in many aspects. It’s clearly a

challenging time of year. Some situations are entirely under our power and what we want to accomplish, while others

are beyond your control and things are hurled at you.

“We are prepared to handle anything comes our way. I’m pleased with the squad and how everyone is contributing.

I’m definitely looking forward to what the future holds for us.”

Boro now has a full squad and enters the January transfer window in a strong position, knowing that they do not

need to desperately pursue anything. However, in Latte Lath, they are aware that they may receive large sums of

money, which, if of a certain level, will be difficult to refuse.

The challenge for Boro in such a scenario would be to ensure they fully replace any player who left next month, with

Carrick eager to ensure his squad is not weaker by the conclusion of the season. They are sixth in the table heading

into January, with their promotion aspirations intact.
