Chris Wilder reveals exciting Sheffield United transfer update after COH Sports takeover

Chris Wilder, the manager of Sheffield United, has stated that he will discuss preparations for the January transfer window with Helmy Eltoukhy and Steve Rosen, the team’s new owners, on Friday.

Prince Abdullah’s five-year tenure as sole owner of Sheffield United came to an end on Monday when the US-based group COH Sports finally completed their takeover of the team following months of talks and several delays.

The Blades, who are presently leading the Championship standings by three points over Leeds United in second place, would have been much farther ahead had they not been docked two points for the takeover.

Championship table (as it stands 24th December)
Team P GD Pts
1 Sheffield United 22 21 48
2 Leeds United 22 26 45
3 Burnley 22 19 44
4 Sunderland 22 16 43
5 Blackburn Rovers 21 7 37
6 Middlesbrough 22 10 35
7 West Brom 22 10 35
8 Watford 21 2 34

Rosen and Eltoukhy claimed that they are “delighted and honoured” to be announced as the club’s new owners, and they spoke of their intention to guarantee that United are “playing in the top flight of English football on a consistent basis”.

The two, who will be in attendance at Bramall Lane for the critical meeting against third-placed Burnley on Boxing Day, also maintained that they are “committed to supporting the management team” to continue the success that has been made this season.

In his first remarks after the takeover was completed, Wilder stated that Rosen and Eltoukhy are prepared to help him in January. He also disclosed that he will be meeting with United’s new owners later this week to talk about plans for the next window.

“Through Stephen Bettis, United’s CEO, I have spoken with the new owners, and they have publicly stated that they would like to support us in January. “I met the co-chairmen at the Sheffield Wednesday game, and I spoke with Stephen about that process,” Wilder told The Yorkshire Post.

Naturally, there wasn’t much time to discuss it in detail, and they are attending the game on the 26th and I have a meeting with them both on the 27th.

“On the 27th, I will meet with them to give them a tour of the training facility, meet our personnel, and discuss January because, in my opinion, it is our most important goal to meet.

“I’ve discussed the importance of experience over inexperience, quality over quantity, and perhaps two or three individuals to support the club. We are now a little overburdened, so it would be fantastic if we could accomplish that.

“We will have those discussions and I am looking forward to the next chapter in our long history.”

“What we all wanted was the clarity everywhere. Although I wasn’t heavily involved in the process, I am appreciative of Stephen Bettis’s contribution because he kept me informed.”

A manager change is frequently brought about by the entrance of new owners, but it appears that Wilder has the full support of Rosen and Eltoukhy.

Although Wilder has done a fantastic job leading United to the top of the Championship table, their chances of sustaining their promotion push in the second half of the season will depend on their ability to bolster their squad in January.

After their strong start, the Blades will need to be cautious not to overstretch their team, but two or three high-caliber additions might help Wilder’s team push across the finish line and make an instant return to the Premier League.
