Brendan Rodgers’ team should be pleased that Palmeiras has joined SC Internacional in their pursuit of Celtic’s Alexandro Bernabei.
Celtic gave the left-back permission to sign a loan deal with Internacional in March, with a buyout option that would expire at the end of this year. His performances and goal contributions during his 23 league games have not gone unnoticed.
Alessandro Barcellos, the president of Internacional, said last week that talks with Celtic are “in full swing” and that the team is eager to keep him.
According to UOL, Palmeiras is now keeping a close eye on their league rivals’ attempts to reach an agreement with Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Celtic is asking €5 million for the Argentine, and Internacional has not yet reached an agreement with them. The Scottish champions will entertain other teams once they try to reduce the fee and have until the end of this month.
Palmeiras believes the 24-year-old presents a “great market opportunity” given Celtic’s €5 million offer, but the source notes there’s no guarantee the Glasgow club won’t demand more.
In any case, Palmeiras is interested in signing Bernabei and will not approach Celtic until Internacional’s preferred deadline. UOL adds that in order to sign the Celtic, the former must sell either Vanderlan or Caio Paulista.
