Steven Gerrard in mammoth U-turn over Scotland starter as under-fire boss dishes out a second chance

Steven Gerrard has granted Scotland defender Jack Hendry a reprieve when he was reinstated to the league roster.

Since the Euros, the former Celtic goalkeeper has appeared in only two games for Al-Ettifaq in the Asian Champions League. Gerrard did not include him on the foreign player roster for the Saudi League this season, so Hendry was not registered to play for the team.

However, former Rangers manager Gerrard has changed his mind and has decided to reinstate Hendry in the squad for the second half of the season, replacing Brazilian midfielder Vitinho. It means the 29-year-old will be able to resume his career in the lucrative league, having joined from Club Brugge last year.

Hendry has 34 caps for Scotland, restored his spot in the last team, and was on the bench for the Nations League’s 2-1 victory against Poland. Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the latest breaking news, video, and audio from the SPFL, Scotland national team, and more.
