Mateusz Klich is enjoying a break after the 2024 MLS campaign ahead of a new chapter in the Leeds United icon’s career, with the Polish ace switching clubs ahead of 2025.
After two years at DC United, 34-year-old Mateusz Klich has agreed a move to MLS outfit Atlanta United. It comes after 70 appearances with DC, in which he had a hand in 20 goals following his exit from Leeds.
Indeed, Poland star Klich said he didn’t want to leave Leeds but his lack of game time under then-gaffer Jesse Marsch left him little option. That lack of minutes saw him miss Poland’s 2022 World Cup squad.
But his love of Leeds remains. Indeed, Klich left Leeds after 195 appearances for the Yorkshire club and Klich said he would love to return to Leeds to take his tally of games to a landmark figure of 200.

His love for Leeds remains even after the last couple of years. A crucial part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side that got Leeds promoted from the Championship – even when Leeds had treated Klich badly on occasion.
Signed in 2017, Klich only managed 10 Leeds outings that season and was shipped out on loan to Dutch side FC Utrecht for game time. He returned, with his future in the balance but Bielsa quickly changed that.
Scoring the first goal of Bielsa’s reign in the 3-1 win against Stoke, Klich did not look back and like Leeds fans with him, he fell in love with the club. That remains, in his post on Instagram over the weekend.
Klich uploaded images while enjoying some down time after agreeing a move to Atlanta while wearing a 2000-01 Leeds away kit with “Radebe, 5” on the back. He also tagged ‘The Chief’ in the Instagram post.
When will Klich make his debut for new side Atlanta United?
So, ahead of his third year in the MLS, Klich will be representing a new side. A team that won the MLS Cup back in 2018. Leeds were linked with Gerardo Martino, the manager that guided Atlanta to the title.
Klich joins a side currently managed by former Celtic boss Ronny Deila, and a playing squad including the likes of Brad Guzan, Ireland international Derrick Williams and former West Ham winger Xande Silva.
Atlanta are at home in their opening game of the 2025 season, when they take on Montreal on February 23. Then, they go to Dean Smith’s Charlotte on March 1 while a clash against DC United comes in July.
