Premier League issue official statement following Alexander Isak incident at Ipswich Town.

Newcastle took the lead as Isak scored within 30 seconds, but the goal was first called out due to offside. After a lengthy VAR check, the goal was finally granted minutes later.

While Isak was definitely onside for the score, Jacob Murphy was ruled offside throughout the buildup. However, the VAR check overruled the verdict, indicating that Murphy was in an onside position.

The Premier League Match Centre confirmed this, stating: “1′ VAR OVERTURN.” Isak’s goal was disallowed due to offside on the field. The VAR determined that Murphy was in an onside position during the build-up and recommended that the goal be awarded.”

Murphy put Newcastle ahead 2-0 in the first half, and Isak added two goals either side of halftime to complete his hat-trick.

Newcastle had a goal disallowed in stoppage time as Dan Burn turned it in but was flagged offside. A VAR check verified the decision.

Newcastle’s third consecutive win, and their second consecutive 4-0 victory in the Premier League, propelled them into the top half of the standings as Christmas approached.

Isak has now scored 11 goals for the Magpies this season and 26 goals in 37 games this year. Newcastle will face Aston Villa on Boxing Day, followed by a final encounter against Manchester United in 2024.
