“Might leave” – Coventry City: £4m man tipped for January exit amid Reading transfer links.
This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features unique perspectives from our FLW Fan Pundits on the most recent breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and more…
According to Football League World’s Sky Blues fan commentator, links to Reading FC’s Tyler Bindon might lead to central defender Liam Kitching leaving Coventry City.
According to Football League World, Coventry, Hull City, and Watford are interested in signing the Royals’ teenage defender.
Bindon, 19, is reportedly on Blackburn Rovers’ radar. He joined Reading last season under Ruben Selles and is currently managed by Noel Hunt.
Hunt, who took over as Bindon’s manager when Selles departed for Hull, has stated that the Royals and Tigers have agreed not to sign any Reading players in the forthcoming window. This eliminates one of Coventry’s contenders in the race for the New Zealander.
The Royals’ manager did not rule out player sales in January. However, Ryan Murphy, a Coventry supporter, believes Bindon is not the ideal fit for the squad at this time.
Tyler Bindon’s links fit Coventry’s recruitment approach.
Murphy believes the Sky Blues need to add experience at the back in January, but admits that signing Bindon would be in line with the club’s recruitment approach.
Murphy commented on the reported interest in Bindon, saying, “Obviously, it’s always wonderful for the club to be recruiting young players with loads of promise because that’s our model: to buy players for low costs, develop them into better players who achieve their potential, and then cash in for higher profits.
“That’s what we’ve done in recent years with players like Gus Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres, particularly Gyokeres. I believe that getting him for £1 million will eventually lead to a transaction worth more than £20 million.
“This is the model for how the club operates and who the new owner is, so it would not surprise me if we are in for someone like him.”

“You embrace that. You can see what they’re trying to do with Norman Bassette, another player they signed for a low fee who is already getting a lot of attention, which is surprising given that he hasn’t scored many goals, but he is getting people talking about him, and that is City’s model.”
Liam Kitching’s Coventry position is under jeopardy, according to Tyler Bindon claims.
According to the fan commentator, if Coventry does sign the 19-year-old, Kitching’s time at the CBS Arena may come to an end. Despite agreeing a £4 million+ contract with add-ons for the 25-year-old last summer, City manager Frank Lampard has yet to use him.
He said: “We’d welcome that [a move for Bindon], but we obviously need some experience right now, so if he comes in, you’d imagine Liam Kitching would leave because he can’t get a sniff under Frank Lampard; I don’t think he’s played a single minute.
“He seemed terribly out of favour, yet we paid £3-4 million for him, which doesn’t look good.
“Would he be elsewhere? Who knows. But if we bring in another centre-back, and I believe another experienced player, there will most likely be no space for someone like Kitching on the bench.
“It will be extremely intriguing to watch what happens now that we have a new manager, new plans, and fresh ideas with Lampard. I welcome fresh, youthful acquisitions at low costs, but we also need [to bring] in some experienced players.”
