Former Sunderland boss now a leading contender for Championship job alongside 2023 Black Cats manager target.
A former Sunderland boss might make a surprising return to the Championship, with Millwall now without a manager.
Sunderland’s manager Regis Le Bris has been in position for a time and does not appear to be facing any managerial turmoil.
The Frenchman joined Sunderland in the summer, four months after Michael Beale was fired in February.
Le Bris has won 11 of his 22 games in charge, and his Black Cats are now 4th in the Championship league following a 3-2 comeback win against Swansea City.
Despite a promising start, Le Bris has expressed uncertainty about his future at the Stadium of Light due to recent inconsistent performances.
But a win over Norwich City on Wearside this weekend would allay many fans’ recent concerns about the team, which has been beaten and bruised by injuries.
Sunderland may meet former boss Alex Neil in their remaining games this season.
Alex Neil, who formerly competed with Michael Beale at Sunderland, is a possibility for Millwall.
Neil was the man who led Sunderland out of League One after four years in the English third division. However, he departed for Stoke City shortly after the start of the 2022/23 season, following the club’s elevation.
According to the Mirror, Neil is a top contender for Millwall’s managerial position. Neil was recently connected with a move to the Philadelphia Union in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Steven Schumacher is also in the running. Sunderland were briefly connected with Schumacher before hiring Michael Beale in December 2023.
Smith stated, “He is so separated from the noise and the fuss, and I believe it is such a tremendous attribute to have.
“So single-minded, and you can’t really tell if they’ve won or lost.”
Neil remains an experienced EFL manager, and he may be a strong match for Millwall, which Harris has left in 13th position in the Championship standings.
