Daniel Farke Leeds United comment should set alarm bells going for Championship rivals

Leeds United’s manager offered a positive injury update after his side thrashed Oxford United 4-0.

There’s plenty of seasonal cheer to be had at Leeds United right now, thanks to a 4-0 victory over Oxford United, which has everyone excited for the holiday season. Another Elland Road victory ensured Leeds maintained their lead over Sheffield United ahead of a crucial phase in the season.

Farke made a few changes for the meeting at Elland Road, but opted not to play Pascal Struijk after the player had a tight hamstring earlier in the week, despite returning to training on Friday. With Struijk rested, Ethan Ampadu returned to the starting lineup for the first time after a couple of substitute outings following his lengthy injury layoff.

Ampadu was back in the heart of defence for the first time in a long time, and his inclusion in the starting lineup, as well as the opportunity to rest Struijk ahead of a busy season, will be a significant lift for Leeds and a boost for Farke, given what is on the horizon.

“He was able to train yesterday, but we spoke after, and it would have been a risk,” Farke said of Struijk’s absence. “I took the decision not to risk him for this game.”

Farke said of Ampadu, “He hasn’t played at centre back in ages. He looked sharp in training, and we know we have a hectic period ahead.”

A double boost for Leeds, who, after four goals and three points, will now travel into Christmas in high spirits.
