“The situation with Campbell” – Pundit eases Sheffield United fears over Bournemouth transfer target

Tyrese Campbell, a Sheffield United forward, is allegedly on AFC Bournemouth’s radar ahead of the January transfer window, but Carlton Palmer believes a deal will not happen.

Following a terrible 2023/24 season at Stoke City, Campbell has clearly gotten his career back on track with Sheffield United, having moved to Bramall Lane in the summer. He is a talented Championship player, but his career was at a crossroads after leaving Stoke. The move to Sheffield United has clearly revived him.

According to TalkSPORT, he is currently garnering high-level interest. Campbell is being watched for a potential move to the Cherries this winter. Despite starting only eight games out of 21, the Blades forward has scored six league goals, giving him Sheffield United’s top scorer and league-wide leader in ‘goals per 90 minutes’ (FotMob).

Campbell had played 164 games for the Potters, scoring 36 goals and providing 21 assists. His most prolific league campaign in a Stoke shirt was in 2019/20, when he scored nine goals in 33 appearances, averaging one goal per 180 minutes.

Stoke fans have debated the 24-year-old’s attitude and if he has been the same player since injury issues. He has scored 18 goals in his last 98 games for the club, causing some to question his consistency.

However, there is undeniable skill there, and it was not too late for his career to resume, which Wilder and his teammates were willing to risk this summer by relying on a terrible injury record. When fit, Campbell has the potential to compete in the high echelons of the second tier.

Campbell suffered a hamstring injury against Millwall earlier this month, and the severity remains unknown. However, the low risk of a free transfer appears to have been a masterstroke so far, with Wilder extracting the most out of Campbell in nearly five years.

Carlton Palmer, an ex-England international and current EFL pundit, believes Sheffield United will not consider an exit for Campbell next month, citing his impressive all-round performance this season.

According to Football League World, AFC Bournemouth and other teams are studying Sheffield United’s forward Tyrese Campbell.

“He has been in fantastic form for Sheffield United, helping them to the top of the Championship, scoring six goals in 14 games.

“The Blades signed him on a free transfer this summer. That he left for free means nothing, as Tyrese is much sought after by many football clubs.

“Glasgow Rangers was one of them after he exhausted his contract. It’s not that other teams weren’t interested at the time. He ran it down, therefore he became a free agent.

“The situation with Campbell is that Bournemouth are currently sixth in the Premier League, and he is an excellent hold-up and link-up player who can go in behind.

“However, he does not score many goals. Throughout his Championship career, he has scored a maximum of nine goals each season. Can he carry that threat to the Premier League? I do not know.

“But I’m sure Bournemouth is interested in him, and he could be a good value. However, I can’t fathom Sheffield United, who are now top of the division and looking to return to the Premier division, letting him go.

“So I’m a little startled by this one. However, with Tyrese in such good form and Sheffield United doing so well, there will undoubtedly be interest in the youngster.

“But I can’t see anything coming of that.”
