It looks like Newcastle United will once again be forced to sell before we can even think about bringing any new faces in this coming January transfer window.
One of the main names being mentioned as a possible exit is Miguel Almiron, who was almost shipped out over the last two windows following interest from Saudi Arabia and America.
A few months later, he’s barely getting a look in under Eddie Howe and with outgoings needed to fund a new right-winger, it seems Miggy could be the first to leave in the upcoming window.
MLS side set to make Miggy move?
According to Journalist Ben Jacobs, one possible destination for the right-winger is MLS side Charlotte FC, who he claims are working on a £8.5million deal for Almiron.
Charlotte FC were heavily linked with a move for the 30-year-old over the summer and talks were reported, but a deal couldn’t be agreed at the time.
It’s believed the MLS side were quoted a fee in excess of £15m when they first registered their interest a few months ago, so it seems Newcastle have reluctantly lowered their demands in order to find a buyer.
Newcastle could have arguably received more for his services around 12 months ago, but with his playing time coming to a standstill and his value decreasing, it feels like any fee in that region should be accepted.
Jacobs does add that nothing is in the ‘advanced stages’ just yet, but you get the feeling that Howe is going to have to start being a bit more ruthless with the players he has to let go or risk the club stagnating.
Almiron sale to raise funds for exciting, young replacement
Newcastle need all the money we can get at the minute given the current PSR circumstances, and the likes of Almiron are unfortunately on the peripherals of the squad.
We’ve already been linked to a number of targets who could fill the right wing role, with the latest being Johan Bakayoko from PSV after reports in Belgium stated yesterday that we’re ‘very close’ to an agreement on the player’s side.
Almiron moving on would be a deal that would seemingly suit all parties as Newcastle raise funds to sign elsewhere while the now 30-year-old returns to the league where he enjoyed his best run of form.
