MIDDLESBROUGH have not yet received any concrete indication of imminent offers for Isaiah Jones but Championship clubs are monitoring the winger’s situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Reports emerged this week claiming Jones is looking for a move next month after falling out of favour at the Riverside following the arrival of Ben Doak.
Jones was a key player for Boro last season, leading to the winger signing a new contract back in April, but he’s only made one start since mid-September, with Doak firmly establishing himself as Michael Carrick’s first choice on the right flank.
Doak is only on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season but, according to this week’s reports, Jones is in the market for a new club in January in the hope of more regular football.
With the 25-year-old’s contract running until 2027, Boro are in a strong position and any interested clubs would have to make an offer that Riverside chiefs deem acceptable. Jones has previously been linked with Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace and West Ham but hasn’t consistently hit the heights that he reached after his brilliant breakthrough in the 2021/22 season.
Head coach Michael Carrick isn’t paying any attention to the speculation surrounding Jones, and said: “There are reports on quite a lot…
“Nothing has changed from my perspective.
“He’s part of the squad. I know he hasn’t played as much as he’d like to but there’s no change from my point of view.”
Jones has only played 25 minutes of Championship action since early November and was an unused substitute in five of Boro’s last eight games.
But Carrick said: “It’s important to understand that it’s not just because you’re playing you’re important. Every player has a role to play and that’s part of being in a good squad and good team.
“We keep pushing every individual to get better. Sometimes you’ll be in the team, sometimes you might not be. That’s the nature of being competitive.”
