It was inevitable that Josh Windass was going to be asked was about his Sheffield Wednesday manager, Danny Röhl, when he spoke to the media today…
The Owls manager has been the subject of much speculation in recent days, first being linked with the Saints post following Russell Martin’s departure, with German media reporting that he is also a ‘candidate’ for the job at Hamburger SV in his own country.
It’s news that has had Wednesday fans on edge since it first surfaced, with many fearing they might lose the man who masterminded last season’s Championship great escape – but that no longer appears to be the case, as the Premier League club looks set to hire Croatian Ivan Juric.
Windass, who has been a vital component during Röhl’s time at Hillsborough, says that nothing was said amid the speculation of a possible exit, with the Owls manager instead focussing on the work ahead this weekend against Stoke City.
Speaking to the media, he stated, “I just got started with training; I expect him to coach and train us in the best way he can while he’s here – which I expect him to be for the foreseeable future – and nothing really changes.” As Sheffield Wednesday’s manager, he can only do his best to guide the team.
“He came in and held the team meeting as usual to prepare for the weekend.” I would inform you if he said anything, but he came in, and we trained as usual. We’d been off for a few days prior, so it was simply a matter of getting back in and restarting training… It’s up to Danny to respond, but I don’t see any changes happening.”
Wednesday face Stoke at 12.30pm on Saturday, looking for their first Hillsborough win in six weeks, and Röhl will be hoping that his players will follow his lead and keep focused on their final S6 game of 2024.
