Johannes Hoff Thorup offers Jacob Sorensen fitness update

Johannes Hoff Thorup offers Jacob Sorensen fitness update.

Jacob Sorensen has been deemed fit for Norwich City’s trip to Sunderland on Saturday. The dynamic Danish midfielder was ruled out of Sunday’s defeat to Burnley due to a minor muscular issue, with concerns that a scan may be required to determine the full degree of his injury sustained following City’s draw with Portsmouth. It was considered to be the 26-year-old’s latest setback in terms of fitness, given he had only recently returned from a foot injury. City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup gave a bullish appraisal of Sorensen’s prospects ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wearside, confirming that a scan was not required following positive progress this week. “He is probably back on Saturday,” Thorup said at Wednesday’s press conference. “That’s how it looks right now, but we need to test him with a good session tomorrow to see if everything is still fine.

“That is how it appears at the moment. There was no need for a scan. It was just what we had hoped for, and it improved the next day. “There was no reason for that. It appears to be fine, and we will need to test him more, but we are optimistic.” Josh Sargent, City’s starting striker, is set to return either before or after the New Year’s Day trip to Luton Town as he continues his rehabilitation from groin surgery in November.

Otherwise, City has a completely healthy team for Saturday’s match at the Stadium of Light, but number one custodian Angus Gunn may be absent while Norwich awaits word from the FA on whether they will face a fine. That would most likely give George Long another chance between the sticks on Wearside as City look for their first away win in seven against Regis Le Bris’ high-flyers.
