Chris Wilder confirms Sheffield United injury “blow” ahead of Cardiff City, but key duo could return

Sheffield United will be without top scorer Tyrese Campbell for tomorrow’s trip to Cardiff City, manager Chris Wilder has disclosed, in a big fitness setback for the table-topping Blades. The striker has missed United’s last two games after a back injury flared up during the draw at West Bromwich Albion.

There were hopes that a free week following last weekend’s win over Plymouth Argyle would help him get back on track, but Wilder had already stated that United would not take any chances with the former Stoke City forward, with Rhian Brewster in line to lead the line once more against Omer Riza’s team.

Wilder’s tongue-in-cheek strategy to alleviate problem issues amid Leeds point

“Ty is not going to be available for the weekend, so that’s a blow for us,” Wilder told me. “But, as we’ve done in the last few months with injuries, we’ve dealt with them rather well, and we’ll have to continue doing so. “I will not be a manager who sits here talking about injuries.”They are an integral aspect of the game. The ones we dislike are those over which we have control. That was unfortunate. Ty will work really hard and hopefully return for the upcoming Burnley/West Brom/Sunderland trifecta.”

The Campbell loss could be eased by the return of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza from recent ankle and hamstring injuries, although Femi Seriki is anticipated to miss out again due to a calf injury sustained at West Brom.
“Everyone is fine,” Wilder added. “They’ve trained well, after a much-deserved break following my complaints about the timetable and travel. But I stand by it. Everyone gets confused by the fixture list every now and again.

“And I feel we are one of the most heavily punished teams in the division and will be rising up. I’m told it’s because we’re winning football games, so I’m not going to modify our strategy, and we’ll deal with it like we have before.”
