Breaking: Despite the Celtic penalty fiasco, Rangers veteran Cyriel Dessers says, “It’s the right thing to do.”

The former Cremonese striker’s career has taken a nosedive at Ibrox in the last month. Dessers put up respectable stats for the Gers in front of goal despite not being a fan favorite, but his profilgacy eventually caught up with him.

Danilo’s goal-scoring prowess and Hamza Igamane’s injury comeback caused the 29-year-old to drop rapidly in Philippe Clemente’s team’s hierarchy.

In the League Cup final versus Celtic, he entered the game but was unable to give his team the advantage. Dessers avoided the team’s penalty shootout, which made matters more difficult as they lost another championship to their opponents. Jack Butland, the Rangers’ goalie, took a spot kick in stark contrast.
He was therefore criticized for failing to step up when his team needed him, but McCoist has defended the Nigerian striker, who was born in Belgium, saying he did nothing wrong.

“You should step up to take a penalty in a shootout if you have the Rangers number nine jersey on your back, but a bigger man will walk away if he doesn’t feel comfortable doing so.” Since it’s a chance to score a goal, I always believe your goal scorer should be taking our penalties.

He didn’t take it, which surprised me a lot, but I’m not sure how he was feeling physically or emotionally, so if something is wrong, it’s a bigger guy who says, “No, I’m not prepared for this, either mentally or physically.” With Dessers, I’m not sure if that was the case.

The 62-year-old stated in words obtained by the Daily Record, “Rangers forwards, all forwards in fact, need to score goals, but if you have a problem physically or mentally and you’re not up for it for any reason, then it’s the correct thing to do.”

Dessers needs playing time to recover his confidence, so things may become tough. However, he’s sure to get it somewhere because Ligue 1 team Saint-Etienne has expressed interest in him.
