Alex Ovechkin continues his ramp up on Thursday towards potential return soon

In the midst of the chaos that was the Capital One Arena news, the Washington Capitals held practice.

The Washington Capitals skated Thursday morning at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. Following the excellent announcement of a Capital One Arena makeover, we received additional positive news regarding team captain Alex Ovechkin.

While wearing his light blue non-contact jersey, Ovechkin skated in drills. Lars Eller had a maintenance day, and according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post, Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said Ovechkin may play Sunday or Monday.

While he will not play tomorrow night against the Carolina Hurricanes on Washington’s home ice, he is getting close, and the next step is to get approved for contact. Ovechkin’s return might happen before the Christmas break.
