Report: Bayern Munich could shift focus to Xavi Simons if Florian Wirtz pursuit fails.
Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl did want Xavi Simons badly last summer…
According to Sport Bild writers Christian Falk and Heiko Niedderer (as caught by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich may not be patient with Bayer Leverkusen offensive midfielder Florian Wirtz.
If Wirtz extends his contract with Leverkusen, Bayern Munich may soon transfer its attention to RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons (as if you needed more reason to watch Friday’s game):
Bayern are considering Xavi Simons as a backup if Florian Wirtz extends his contract at Bayer Leverkusen. Simons’ loan agreement with RB Leipzig will end in the summer, putting him on the market. Max Eberl was already in very specific negotiations with the Dutchman last summer before the latter opted to stay in Leipzig.
What can Bayern Munich fans learn from this? The Bavarians appear to be looking to make a big money signing, and if Wirtz isn’t available, Bayern Munich may not wait for him.
That might be a concern, since if Bayern Munich spends in the high double figures on another offensive midfielder (though Simons can also play on the flank), a Wirtz move in 2026 is extremely improbable.
Bonus deep-state/tinfoil hat theory: Bayern Munich published this tale to contradict claims of Wirtz signing with Leverkusen, informing him that if he does not transfer this summer, the club will spend its money elsewhere.
Poll
Would you rather get Xavi Simons in 2025 or wait for Florian Wirtz in 2026?
