Tottenham keen on signing Jonathan David

Lille’s Jonathan David is now being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, with a number of outlets backing the Lilywhites to push ahead with a move for the 24-year-old, whose current deal at Lille runs out at the season.

It emerged last week that Ange Postecoglou‘s men had launched an offer to bring the Canadian international to N17.

Meanwhile, other sources suggested a few days ago that Tottenham have held talks with David‘s representatives over a free transfer to the club next summer.

However, Spurs are not the only club chasing the Lille man, with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool also credited with an interest in the player.

Barcelona set to pull out of Jonathan David race

Tottenham’s road to landing David might have just got a little easier as it has now emerged that Barca are no longer as keen on the striker.

This update comes from Barca Blaugranes, who say that even though the Catalan club think the Lille star is a ‘good market opportunity’, they are not likely to make a move for him.

This is because the decision-makers at the La Liga club have some doubts about the centre-forward’s fit for the side.

Barca’s sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick are both said to be of the opinion that David struggles when he does not have space to exploit, and they thus feel he might struggle at Camp Nou.

Jonathan David seems PL-bound

With news that Barca are pulling away, all signs point to a move to the Premier League for David next summer. However, it will be difficult for Spurs to win the race for the former Gent man unless they qualify for the Champions League.

If the striker does leave on a free transfer, he might also demand huge wages, which Tottenham may not be willing to pay.
